EDITORIAL: Some Thoughts On “The Truth With Elliott Wilson: Are Vet MC’s Trying Too Hard?”
October 16, 2012 in Editorial
In the premier episode of EW’s new video for the Life & Times, Elliott Wilson asks the tough question of are veteran MC’s trying too hard with their recent singles. Sadly this is the first time I even heard of Uncle L’s “Ratchet” or maybe that’s not sadly since it sucks. Eve’s joint is okayish even though it’s wearing the Nicki influence on it’s sleeve or is that vice versa? Which brings us to Fat Joe’s “Instagram That H*e” which is probably causing the shareholders of Instagram to cringe in horror. Well maybe they would if it wasn’t an ass backwards song, but that’s beside the point. My only issue with this video is yes these songs are terrible, but what is the difference in quality between them and some of the garbage by current hot artists on a blog like RapRadar or this under appreciated one? “Instagram” is basically a Ross song without Ross on it and Officer Ricky gets unlimited burn over at the house that Light Skin built. If we are going to start calling out “vets” for trying too hard maybe we should call out any artist for making trash music.

There’s just an identity crisis in hip hop, old dudes don’t know how to fit in out there. I blame the veteran artists for not setting a trend on how to age gracefully. It seems desparate and no way will a younger audience gravitate towards someones Father acting in such a desparate fashion.
True indeed. and lol at someone’s father.
The fact that MC’s are following rappers is the saddest statement. That these artists( at least in the case of LL and Fat Joe ) are chasing trends and topics that should be beneath them is more distressing than that Elliott Wilson is taking them to task for doing music that he promotes on the regular. Relevance isn’t worth losing respect, regardless what the internets say.
Word up and great breakdown.
