Actually this is one of Chelsea’s more tame interviews mainly just talk about Common’s new show Hell On Wheels which I still haven’t had a chance to watch. I think Common is a passable actor at best and I stand by my assertion that his performance in Just Wright has to be top five worst ever by a rapper. That being said everything that I’ve heard from Dreamer and the Believer is making it out to be one of the best albums of the year.
I’m posting this just so I can post one of the screen shots from this video, but you have to watch this for yourself to see the rest of the baby pics that Drake’s dad brings out. Got to love how pops takes credit for telling him to use that singing voice of his. Hit the jump for the goods, I’m sorry but I had to with that picture.
I know this isn’t really news but it gives me a reason to post this post this video by Nike that reminds us all
that basketball continues on without the NBA to buy Nike. Well done.
I seriously feel a sense of pride just typing these words. Yesterday the Trill OG himself was honored in Houston for his contributions to the community by being given his own day. That’s right, August 30th, 2011 will forever be known as Bun B day. RIP to Pimp C and UGK 4 Life. Above is the proclamation itself and below is some video of the actual event. Third coast born that means I’m Texas raised.
In amongst all the mind-numbingly bad reporting last night, there were one or two gems. In this one, Simeon Brown of HYPE (Haringey Young People Enspired) gives a fantastic insight into the issues behind these riots.
I can’t speak on everything that is happening in London, but it seems to be the same kind of situation with Rodney King. It’s not that King was a stand up citizen or anything, but he was more of a symbol for the years of police injustice in California and the country in general. For more on the riots and protests click here.
If you haven’t been paying attention to the news or twitter or any other source of information there has been large scale rioting in the northern portion of London over the weekend and continuing into tonight. The cause of the riots has been a reaction to the shooting of death of Mark Duggan, a Tottenham man who was shot by police after they say he fired upon them. The problem with the official version of the story is that all bullets found at the scene seem to be police issue. Also as is in the case with most riots of this nature this is probably a long simmering conflict and this is the straw that broke the back. More astonishing video after the break, and check here for people who can speak on this situation far better than I can.
“In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama in the United States of America,” the Chicago lyricist told CBS News’ “What’s Trending.” “For me, I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism. The root cause of the terrorism is the stuff that you as a government allow to happen and the foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists. And it’s easy for us because it’s really just some oil, which we can really get on our own.”
Encouraging to see an artist take a stand like this. While I don’t agree with not voting, especially in local elections, I do feel that our government’s policies are as much to blame as any other factor in inciting terrorism. There are always two sides to every story, and remember history is written by the winners. Ok is that enough cliches for the day?
This footage is all in Japanese but you can actually see the devastation taking place. Unbelievable video, please pray for the people of Japan, and for that matter the people of the world.
